Projects are unable to exist without revenue derived from carbon credits.
Additionality
Carbon claims linked to avoided emissions from predominantly soil carbon conservation - which is an optional pool in the methodology and hard to verify on a frequent basis. Risk buffer and leakage are appropriately considered per the methodology.

Verification should be conducted according to established standards and should be transparent and accessible to all stakeholders. A trusted third-party verifier can help build confidence in the carbon offset market and ensure that carbon offsets are a reliable tool for mitigating climate change.

Permanence
Once carbon has been removed from the atmosphere, it is essential to ensure that it remains out of the atmosphere. This requires ongoing monitoring and maintenance of the projects that remove or reduce emissions, to ensure that they are operating as intended and that any potential issues are addressed in a timely manner.

The methodology should be transparent, standardized, and based on the best available scientific data. It is also important to ensure that the methodology is recognized by relevant regulatory bodies and that it is regularly reviewed.
An increase in emissions should occur elsewhere, or account for any that occur.
Avoid Leakage
To achieve this, offset projects need to be carefully chosen and must meet certain criteria. Projects that qualify for carbon offsets must be "additional," meaning they would not have happened without the offset funding. They must also be verifiable and enforceable to ensure that the carbon credits generated are real and not double-counted.
